• Linked Objects - In Class Demonstration

  Goals: Visualization of the following Key Performance Indicators and Metrics:

  • Load Factor %: The number of enplaned passengers versus the number of available seats
  • Performed versus scheduled flights: The number of flights that were performed versus those that were scheduled
  • Air time %: This gives the time spent flying versus total ramp-to-ramp time
  • Enplaned passengers (in millions): The number of transported passengers, in millions
  • Departures performed (in thousands): The number of flights performed, in thousands
  • Revenue Passenger Miles (millions): The total number of miles that all passengers were transported, in millions
  • Available Seat Miles (millions): The total number of miles that all seats (including unoccupied seats) were transported, in millions
  • Market Share: based on enplaned passengers

• Implementation: Create a new Sheet, call it New Dashboard
• We will create Gauges for Load Factor %, Air time %, and Performed versus scheduled flights.
• For Load Factor % On Presentation Tab Text in Chart is: =Num (Sum ([# Transported Passengers]) / Sum ([# Available Seats]), '##.#%')
• From the Chart Text window, set the Alignment option to Centered and change the Font option to Tahoma, Font Style to Regular, and Size to 14.
• To move the text, activate the gauge object by clicking on the caption. Then, press Ctrl + Shift.
• On Layout Tab - Clear Use Border
• On Caption Tab - Clear Show Caption

• Clone the object
• Creating Gauge for Performed vs Scheduled
• Modifications: Title: Performed vs Scheduled
• Expression: Sum([# Departures Performed]) / Sum([# Departures Scheduled]) with label Performed vs Scheduled
• On the Presentation tab, change the following settings:
  • Set the Min value for gauge to 0.5
  • Remove one segment. Make sure that the first segment has RED Color
  • Set the Max value for the gauge to 1.2
  • Set the Show Scale value to 8 Major Units
  • Set the Show Labels on Every value to 1 Major Unit
  • Text in Chart expressi: =Num(Sum([# Departures Performed]) / Sum([# Departures Scheduled]), '##.#%')
• Air Time % Gauge
• Modifications:
  • Title: Air Time %.
  • The expression: Sum ([# Air Time]) / Sum ([# Ramp-To-Ramp Time])
  • The Max value for the gauge should be 1.
  • The Show Scale value should be set to 6 Major Units.
  • The Show Labels on Every value should be set to 1 Major Unit.
  • Text in Chart expressi: =Num(Sum ([# Air Time]) / Sum ([# Ramp-To-Ramp Time]), '##.#%')

• Text Objects to Display four metrics:
  • Enplaned passengers (in millions) Expression: =Num(Sum ([# Transported Passengers]) / 1000000, '#,##0.00')

    Move the Transparency slider, at the bottom of the window, to 100%.
    On the Font tab, Font option to Tahoma, Font Style to Bold, and Size to 16.
    On the Layout tab, enable the Use Borders checkbox.
    On the Caption tab, check the Show Caption checkbox and define the Title Text field as Transported passengers (millions).
    Set the Horizontal Caption Alignment option to Centered.
    Mark the Wrap Text checkbox under Multiline Caption.

  • Departures performed (in thousands) Expression: =Num(Sum ([# Departures Performed]) / 1000, '#,##0.00')
  • Revenue Passenger Miles (in millions): the number of miles that paying passengers were transported. Expression: =Num(Sum ([# Transported Passengers] * Distance) / 1000000, '#,##0.00')
  • Available Seat Miles (in millions): the total number of miles that paying. Expression: =Num(Sum ([# Available Seats] * Distance) / 1000000, '#,##0.00')

• Design Radar Chart: To display the number of Enplaned Passengers per Month

• Design Mekko Chart to display the number of enplaned passengers by Flight Type and Year. Analyze the chart
